Topic: Issues / Problems with transferring to AS3 after encoding In fact, you can already do this when you create the job or the download: s3_directive=s3://access_key:secret_key@bucket/my/path/video.flv |

Topic: Development / ftp_directive and the default behaviour We create the folder only if it doesn’t exist on your server, otherwise we can’t upload the file. Unfortunately, you can’t disable the thumbnail upload. |

Topic: Development / ftp_directive and the default behaviour You can’t specify the filename when using the ftp directive. Remember that the filename of the encoded video is the title of the raw video. So, when you upload a video to HeyWatch with title=filename, you’ll have the encoded video filename “filename.flv” (if encoded in flash). |

Topic: General / Fixed width and height but correct aspect ratio We’ve added the padding at left and right, so it’s fixed now. http://particle-s.com/2008/12/10/heywatch-now-keeps-the-video-aspect-when-encoding-a-43-video-to-169/ |

Topic: General / Fixed width and height but correct aspect ratio Yes, your video doesn’t have the good aspect. Usually, from 16:9 to 4:3, no problem, we add black bands at the top and bottom. But your case (4:3 to 16:9), we need to add black bands at left and right which we don’t do. I’ll come back to you tomorrow with a fix. |

Topic: General / Fixed width and height but correct aspect ratio Hi, We always respect the aspect ratio by adding black bands (top and bottom). Did you try with a fixed size 600×338? If you don’t have the expected result, you should tweak your flash player to add black bands at left and right like YouTube did recently. |

Topic: Issues / Problems with transferring to AS3 after encoding That is weird because when we upload your video to S3, we check that the URL is okay which is the case. After some minute, when I check it manually, I get a 403 forbidden error. After the encode, do you update the object or something like that? |

Topic: Feedbacks / 2-pass comparison Yes, in fact if your bitrate is too low, high resolution, ... you won’t have better quality with 2pass (you can’t see the difference). You need to increase the video bitrate and / or decrease the resolution. |

Topic: Feedbacks / 2-pass comparison Hi Woody, I’ve done a screenshot comparison:
We can clearly see the difference between the two pictures. 2-pass encoding is better. Small details make the difference. Of course you need to have a raw video with good quality and not a “macroblock” video, otherwise you won’t see any difference unless you really increase the video bitrate. The other benefit of the 2pass encoding is the lower file size. The best thing to do is to tweak your format by changing video bitrate and try to get the best quality / size. |

Topic: Issues / Poor FLV output quality You should create a new format http://heywatch.com/format/new and increase the video bitrate to improve the quality. Also, try to uncheck the keep quality option since it can be buggy with some video. |

Topic: Issues / Serious h.264 encoding issues with most videos Hi Unruly, We’re working on it since your first email. We’re compiling different ffmpeg versions and check how it works. The problem is some video which usually worked don’t work anymore. So it’s a bit complicated. I’ll let you know. |
